Original recipe, fun at the beach!

Deviled Crab

Mama Nell wrote this on the back of an envelope from someone in Alabama to Nana in 1975—It’s Nana’s recipe. When I was a child (this is not me) we used to go crabbing at the beach. We'd find a bridge and lower a wire cage baited with bacon into the tidal water. When we felt a tug, we'd raise the cage and hope we didn't lose the crab! Cracking and eating crabs plays a part in my book Saving Miss Lillian.

1 lb. Crabmeat

Beat 2 eggs slightly , add to

1 cup mayonnaise

Mix & add crab with

2 tsp grated onion

1 T. Wooster (Worcestershire sauce)

1/2 lemon juice (Juice of 1/2 lemon)

Crush Waverly Wafers or similar cracker and add to mixture until firm.

Place in crab shells or ramekins and bake at 350 degrees for 15 or 20 minutes.
